When AirAsia introduced a route to Labuan Bajo, Flores Indonesia, my heart was drawn to see the beauty of this popular destination for myself. I had one mission: to escape from the tiring daily routine and want to hide away for a while.
While planning this 'escape' I came across a resort that promised the experience I wanted, The Seraya, Komodo, Indonesia. The first thing that caught my attention was not the rooms or accommodations available but the 'digital detox' opportunity.
Yes, I really need it. I don't need a television screen, I don't need a phone line, far away from WiFi to stay online. I just need a safe, peaceful, quiet and beautiful location. Perfect for self-therapy!
It turns out that my choice to go to The Seraya was the right one! I got everything I dreamed of. Located on the north coast of Seraya Kecil island, nine kilometers north of Labuan Bajo, The Seraya is only accessible by water transport.
This means that guests who want to 'disappear' here will have to take a boat from Kampung Ujung Jetty, Labuan Bajo. The journey takes about 45 minutes (regular boat) and the price to pay is between IDR 1.5 million to IDR 1.8 million.
However, the good news is that The Seraya offers a free shuttle boat to every guest. On condition that you follow the set schedule. For check-in, there are boats at 11am and 2pm from Labuan Bajo and for check-out, the boats are scheduled at 10am and 1pm.
I didn't have time to follow the boat provided, so to check in I hired a local for IDR 1.5 million and to check out I had to use the boat provided by The Seraya.
During the three days and two nights at The Seraya, I had a wonderful vacation. The Seraya has its own charm. The writer noticed that the service provided to the guests was the best.
Staying in one of the bungalows located on the hillside, I really liked the concept and layout of the eco-friendly and spacious rooms. In keeping with its eco-resort status. The use of bamboo for the bathroom construction and room furnishings injects the necessary holiday mood.
Most importantly, I was satisfied with the mattress and pillows provided. I had a good night's sleep. After a day of 'playing around' with nature, I really needed a good night's sleep. As early as 9:00 pm, I ended the day with a free mind.
No desire to browse social media, no thoughts of television. I just want to sleep. The crickets chirping outside the room every night, as if lullabying my eyes so that they can fall asleep easily.
My mind also doesn't wander far, I fall asleep easily. This is because I don't think about the workload at all, and I don't even connect with anyone. Lazing around in my room, escaping to the beach, and watching the sunset are the main agenda here. Thank goodness for the opportunity.
Unlimited water activities
Besides being able to watch the sunrise and sunset, one thing that made me fall in love with this resort was the unlimited access to water activities. Or rather, FREE.
There's no need to pay a penny to snorkel around the resort, kayak, or stand-up paddle board (SUP). Just register your name and room number at the water activities counter and 'play' to your heart's content.
Snorkeling near The Seraya jetty promises views of colorful coral reefs and colorful fish. This is because the resort management has taken the initiative to plant and preserve the marine life in their area.
If you're lucky, guests can see larger species such as turtles, rays, reef sharks, and some have even been very lucky to see dugongs. My visit the other day only encountered turtles and stingrays. Even that was incredibly satisfying.
Apart from that, I also managed to kayak to Hatamin Island which is located nearby. My friend and I took about half an hour to paddle there even though the hotel staff informed us that it only took 20 minutes.
With the strong wind blowing, we struggled a bit halfway through. However, our efforts were worth it because the small island of Hatamin was uninhabited and we both had a great time swimming and snorkeling along the shore.
If you have the stamina, you can take the opportunity to Anita Island (further away) which is also uninhabited with amazing snorkeling and diving opportunities. You can also go around Seraya Kecil.
Before checking out on the last day, my friend and I stole some time by doing SUP after breakfast. I really like this activity after first trying it in Langkawi a few years ago. Every time I am in the middle of the ocean, I feel peaceful and calm. A feeling that I often miss when I have been confined in the stone jungle for a long time.
If you are one of those who craves an exciting vacation, The Seraya, Komodo Indonesia is for you. Trust me, it is the perfect vacation location to relieve stress and get away from it all.
This resort promises comfort and exclusive services for every guest. The fun experience begins as soon as you step foot on the resort jetty. The hotel staff will greet you with a friendly smile.
Upon arrival at the check-in area, you will be offered a glass of hibiscus juice to quench your thirst. After completing the check-in process, which takes less than 10 minutes, the resort staff will escort you to your room.
From that moment on, enjoy your holiday to the fullest! For more information, you can visit The Seraya's website at https://www.theseraya.com/ .
